Last Friday I randomly selected the third and final winner in the cycling gear giveaway that I've been running over the past few weeks. Congratulations to Bethany Aquilina of Washington, D.C. for winning the package. We'll get the gear out to you as soon as possible Bethany.

I want to thank everyone for entering the contest. Reading everyone's answers to the various questions I asked were quite interesting, particularly the list of all time favorite cyclists. Lance Armstrong had a loyal following of course, but there were plenty of other great choices as well.

Clif Bar has announced the launch of a great new campaign that not only lets us share some of our favorite outdoor photos but also save our favorite places as well. The company, which makes some of my favorite energy bars, has just launched a new website at MeetTheMoment.com where we can all share our favorite adventures and help the planet in the process.

The concept is simple, outdoor enthusiasts go to the site and upload their images. For each photo that is shared, Clif Bar will donate $5 (up to a grand total of $100,000) to one of several non-profit organizations that are dedicated to protecting the outdoors. Those organizations include Access Fund, International Mountain Bicycling Association, Leave No Trace, Surfrider Foundation and Winter Wildlands Alliance. Additionally, another $1 donation will be donated each time one of the images is shared via a social media outlet, and a grand prize winner will be selected from the top 25 shared images. The person who earns that honor will have an additional $10,000 donated in their name to the organization of their choice and they'll walk away with a year's supply of Clif Bars too!

I know a number of you are avid outdoor photographers and this is a great way to not only get some of your best images viewed by a large audience, but also help those worthy organizations above earn some much needed extra cash. While we watch Team BMC cyclist Cadel Evans attempt to defend his title at the Tour de France, high performance sports apparel company 2XU is offering fans an opportunity of a lifetime. The company, which makes a great line of compression gear for cyclists, triathletes, runners and more, is currently running an online contest that will award the first place winner with a trip for two to Santa Rosa, California to join BMC at their 2012 training camp.

In order to win the contest all you have to do is answer the question "Why do you train?" in 140 characters or less. Whether your do it for your health, to win a big race, or you're simply addicted to exercise, no answer is wrong. Submit your answer on the contest entry page before July 22nd for your chance to win. Only U.S. and Australian residents are eligible.

And don't worry if you don't take home the first prize. The other prize packages are great too. For instance, the second place prize is BMC Roadracer SL01 and a 2XU gear package. The third, fourth and fifth place winners will also be hooked up with some sweet compression gear and BMC memorabilia.

The start of the 2012 Tour de France is now just two days off and cycling fans across the globe are eager for the race to get underway. To celebrate I'm excited to announce that I have several great prize packages to give away over the next few weeks thanks to Grape-nut cereal and USA Cycling, who have partnered together to not only promote the sport of cycling but also healthy, active lifestyles.

Over the next three weeks I'll be giving away one fantastic prize package each week. Each of those packages will include some great USA Cycling gear including 2 t-shirts of different colors, 1 hat, 1 jersey, a USAC ID card, and a box of Grape-Nuts.

The Tour de France is now less than two weeks away and cycling fans across the globe are gearing up for what promises to be another great race. One of the teams that promises to be well in the mix this year is Team Sky, who are led by top sprinter Mark Cavendish and GC contender Bradley Wiggins. The team is celebrating the start of the Tour with a unique contest that will give one lucky fan the opportunity to join them in Paris.

Team Sky is asking fans to design a t-shirt that captures the character of the squad in a unique and creative way. To that end, they've created a template that you can use to show off your artistic talents and impress a panel of judges. That panel will include Team Principal Dave Brailsford, as well as riders Cavendish, Michael Barry and Ben Swift. The winning design be produced and worn by the team and will be shared with the Sky's large Twitter following and more than 150,000 Facebook fans. Better yet, the person who comes up with the best design will be flown to Paris to present the team with the shirt and will be awarded £500 (About $785). The official contest entry information and template, which can be downloaded in .pdf format by clicking here.

The contest runs through June 30th, which is the start of the race, and I'm told that it is open to entrants from anywhere. So grab the template, come up with a unique and interesting design and submit it to website@teamsky.com to be eligible to win. Who knows, you may find yourself in France for Le Tour this year!

If I had an ounce of artistic ability I'd be all over this contest. Not only does it sound fun, it would give me a chance to actually be in France for the race itself. One of these days I'll actually provide coverage from the Tour, but for now you'll have to settle for my usual updates from afar.

While we're on the topic of bike rides today, here's a story for those of us who won't be riding the Tour Divide, even if we'd really like to. Bike manufacturer Schwinn has announced its Ride of a Lifetime promotion during which the company is giving away one bike per day through June 25.

To sign up for the contest, simply go to the Schwinn website and fill out the entry form for the Ride of a Lifetime Giveaway. On that form you'll be asked to pick a friend and enter their name and then you'll be asked to select a specific Schwinn bike for your friend to win. Every time you enter one of your friends into the contest, you'll also be entered to win a new bike for yourself as well. This gives you a chance to not only surprise a friend with some new wheels, but score yourself one while you're at it.

The contest runs for several more weeks so give it a go.

In celebration for its 35th anniversary, Outside magazine is giving away a $10,000 adventure grant to help fund what it calls a "smart, creative, and (perhaps) slightly foolhardy endeavor." Over the past few months they've solicited entries for the grant and now they've announced the five finalists on the Outside Facebook page.

The five finalist are certainly a diverse group. They include Daniel Alvarez, who hopes to paddle from Minnesota to Key West Florida; Quinn Langbauer and Mike Tassels Richard, who intend to cycle across Siberia; long disance hiker Ben Mayberry who will travel the American west on foot and pack raft; Ali Bayless and Hannah Bassett who want to sail the California coast in search of people with dream jobs and  Chase Berenson and Charla Hughes who dream of traveling the length of Thailand in a tuk-tuk.

Each of these is a unique adventure to say the least and all of them sound like fun. You can visit the Outside Facebook page to find out more about them and watch videos from the finalists. Then, cast your vote for the one that you think is most deserving. The winner will be awarded the grant!

It's no secret that one of my favorite annual sporting events is the Tour de France. For three weeks each summer it takes center stage in my life and I follow it religiously on a daily basis. In fact, it is one of two events that I dream about covering in person some day, the other being the Iditarod.

If you've also ever dreamed of witnessing Le Tour first hand, then you'll definitely be interested in the contest that is currently being run by Cannondale. The bike company is giving away a week long trip to the Tour de France that will give the winner backstage access to Team Liquigas-Cannondale. They'll get to ride along in the team car, hang out with the riders and generally live the life of one of the team mebers for a week. And if that wasn't enough, they'll also take home a SuperSix EVO bike as well. That's a ride that has been called the "Best Bike in the World."

To enter the contest, simply go to the Cannondale Facebook Page and hit the "Like" button. Then click on the Tour de France icon to access the contest page and fill out the online form. You'll need to be a bit creative in order to win, as some of the questions ask you how you would help motivate the team, who your favorite rider is, and so on. Based on those answers, 25 finalists will be picked and they'll be asked to submit a video entry to help the team get to know them better. From those videos a winner will be selected.

The contest ends on May 31st, one week from today. Good luck!
